This is your space, making a costume for curry night is just as encouraged as creating concepts for your new startup. The tools available focus on supporting an iterative prototyping approach to problem-solving. By making earlier in your design process you can rigorously and rapidly test your ideas. This a safe space to fail and figure out if you’re building the right IT, before you build IT right.

The Ideas Lab is the Design Engineering Society’s student-run makerspace. The lab is a fun, creative and dynamic hub that brings together our diverse community of members from across Imperial to learn, make and share their ideas.

More Information

We’re run entirely by students for students. We’re led by the Design Engineering Society with over 20 student experts looking after the lab. Student Experts get access to the lab outside of general hours in return for volunteering 2-3 hours a week. We’re supported generously in our mission by Autodesk and Imperial College, The Enterprise Lab/Advanced Hackspace and the Dyson School of Design Engineering.

Access to the lab is free to use for all members of the Design Engineering Society. There is a charge for materials used within the lab using our credits, however as we are non-profit, we try and keep prices as low as possible.

We have a variety of events in the lab including skills shares and Autodesk Fusion 360 classes. Our partner societies also use the space on occasion for evening events.
